Atlas powers Chilean data centres with renewable energy

Today

Atlas Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with ODATA to supply its Chilean data centres with 100% renewable energy.

Atlas Renewable Energy, known for its role in renewable energy provision, has entered into a partnership with ODATA to power data centres in Chile exclusively using renewable energy sources, including solar power. This agreement is notable for its emphasis on utilising 100% I-REC certifiable renewable energy, allowing ODATA the capabilities to expand sustainably in the region.

Ricardo Alário, Chief Executive of ODATA, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We are proud to partner with Atlas Renewable Energy to support the proliferation of new technologies in this dynamic market while further advancing our sustainability goals. As a leader in data centre infrastructure for Latin America, we recognise Chile's potential as a key technology hub. With its strategic location and AI growth potential, the country provides an ideal environment for sustainable data centre growth."

The partnership is expected to drive the adoption of renewable energy within the Chilean data centre industry, aligning with ODATA's objectives to bolster its sustainable practices in the country.

Alfredo Solar, Regional Manager for Chile and the Southern Cone at Atlas Renewable Energy, remarked, "At Atlas we want to promote the implementation of innovative and cutting-edge technologies, where this agreement with ODATA represents just that, an important advance for the country, but hand in hand with sustainability. It is essential that this industry continues to develop at an accelerated pace, especially in an interconnected world in which we want to be protagonists, and for this, renewables as a way to ensure the reduction of the environmental impact of technological growth are key."

This move is significant given the burgeoning demand for technological infrastructure driven by cloud computing and AI trends in Latin America. Chile and Brazil are highlighted as focal points in the region for this expanding demand. According to the 2024 Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index, Chile is recognised as a leader in AI adoption, further driving the need for enhanced data centre capacity and sustainable power solutions.

Atlas Renewable Energy is well-equipped to meet this demand with its substantial portfolio of renewable energy projects across Latin America. Atlas operates projects totalling 8.4 GW of renewable capacity, with a significant portion dedicated to solar energy. Their expertise in renewable infrastructure is expected to support the sustainable development of data centres across Chile, thereby contributing to job creation and promoting a sustainable energy transition.
