Edged completes Mesa data centre framework for AI use
Edged has completed the structural framework of its new data centre in Mesa, Arizona, purpose-built to enhance AI model training and inference with high efficiency.
The Mesa data centre, strategically situated less than 25 miles from downtown Phoenix, boasts a 36 MW critical capacity and features advanced waterless cooling and energy-efficient systems. The facility is expected to become fully operational by late 2025.
The topping out ceremony, a traditional event marking the completion of a building's structure, saw the participation of Edged leaders and local general contractor Haydon Building Corp. The event included a symbolic beam signing, underscoring the collaboration between the involved parties. Further, Edged announced a partnership with Light Source Communications (LSC), the first network provider to link with the facility.
"In celebrating today's topping out event, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to safety—ensuring every step of our build meets the highest standards for our team and our community," stated Bryant Farland, CEO of Edged. "We also celebrate another major milestone as we welcome Light Source Communications into our Mesa data centre as our first network provider. This is a significant leap forward in building a robust connectivity ecosystem and creating the secure, high-performance environment our customers need to power the next generation of heavy compute."
The Mesa data centre is designed to be one of the most water-efficient facilities in the region, utilising the ThermalWorks waterless cooling system, which conserves over 142 million gallons of water annually. The modular cooling system supports air cooling densities of up to 70 kW per rack and plug-and-play liquid cooling up to 200 kW per rack, catering to the increasing demands of hyperscalers and large enterprises.
Debra Freitas, CEO of LSC, commented, "We're excited to welcome Edged onto our Phoenix-area route. Their new facility is aligned with our strategy of supporting the AI and other high-performance computing needs of hyperscalers and enterprises in the metro area. We are committed to meeting the significant connectivity demands of today's businesses. This advanced Edged facility goes hand-in-hand with the state-of-the-art network we are building, which is one of the largest fibre builds of its kind."
Edged Phoenix hopes to become part of a greater network of facilities under construction or operational in various locations across the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Columbus, and Des Moines. This Mesa project highlights Edged's broader expansion initiatives as a subsidiary of Endeavour, working on nearly a dozen new data centres across Europe and North America, driven by a substantial project pipeline.
