Firewalla has launched a family of managed network switches, adding wired infrastructure to its Zero Trust networking platform.

The new products, Switch X and Switch SE, are designed to bring the company's network segmentation, device visibility and access controls to wired devices through the same management system used for its existing products.

The switches complete a platform that already includes Firewalla's firewalls and AP7 access point, allowing organisations to manage wired and wireless networks together. They support the company's VqLAN approach to microsegmentation as well as traditional VLAN deployments.

Firewalla positions the switches not only as connectivity products but also as tools for policy enforcement and monitoring inside local networks. Features include visibility into device-to-device traffic, network topology views and access controls between devices on the same network.

Users can manage the devices through the Firewalla app. The switches can also operate as standalone managed switches when paired with Firewalla Gold, Purple or Orange firewalls, or alongside AP7 access points in broader deployments.

Product range

The Switch X is aimed at larger business networks and backbone deployments. It includes eight 10 Gigabit RJ45 ports with PoE++, four 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink ports and a total PoE budget of 420 watts.

The rack-mountable model has a projected price of USD $699 and is intended for networks that need to connect and power devices such as access points, security cameras and VoIP phones.

The smaller Switch SE is targeted at branch offices, edge deployments and smaller networks. It has eight 2.5 Gigabit RJ45 ports with PoE+, two 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink ports and a total PoE budget of 120 watts.

Firewalla has set a projected price of USD $300 for the Switch SE. It can be used on its own or with the Switch X as an edge switch in a larger network.

Platform push

The launch builds on Firewalla's introduction of the AP7 access point in 2025. With the new switches, the company is extending the same segmentation model from wireless environments to wired infrastructure.

A combined deployment of Firewalla firewalls, AP7 access points and the new switches creates a single Zero Trust networking platform spanning internet gateways, wireless infrastructure and wired endpoints. This setup allows centralised policy management across both network types.

A key feature is local east-west traffic monitoring, giving administrators visibility into how devices communicate inside the network rather than only traffic entering or leaving it. The switches also support dynamic segmentation through Firewalla's Device Active Protect system.

Jerry Chen, Co-Founder of Firewalla, described the launch as the final piece of the company's broader network architecture.

"Last year, we introduced Zero Trust Networking with the Firewalla AP7," said Jerry Chen, Co-Founder of Firewalla.

"We developed VqLAN to simplify microsegmentation, introduced dynamic segmentation with Device Active Protect, and made enterprise-grade network control accessible to everyone. With the Firewalla Switch family, we're extending those capabilities to wired devices and completing the Firewalla Zero Trust architecture," Chen said.

The initial release will be limited in quantity because of supply constraints affecting networking and semiconductor components. Early access units are expected to be limited to the United States.

The new hardware will ship with either beta or production software depending on the purchase route, with production hardware planned for both options. Support for both VqLAN and traditional VLANs suggests Firewalla is aiming to appeal to users adopting its own segmentation model as well as those working with more familiar network configurations.

Since its founding in 2016, Firewalla has sold cybersecurity and networking products to professional users, businesses and advanced users in more than 100 countries.
