Hitachi Vantara VSP One SDS boosts Azure hybrid cloud savings

Wed, 20th Aug 2025

Hitachi Vantara's Virtual Storage Platform One Software-Defined Storage is now available through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace for customers seeking to simplify their hybrid cloud operations and reduce storage costs.

The inclusion of VSP One SDS in the Azure Marketplace allows enterprises to deploy the platform directly through Azure, offering a route to streamlined hybrid cloud integration and procurement. VSP One SDS offers built-in enterprise-grade compression and thin provisioning technologies, supporting claims that organisations could lower cloud storage costs by up to 40%.

Hybrid integration

The platform supports the management and protection of data across both Azure and on-premises environments. Its integrated provisioning, compression and replication features are designed to reduce operational burdens and address the growing complexity enterprises face in managing data across distributed IT infrastructures.

Referencing industry trends, Hitachi Vantara cited research from IDC indicating that 82% of cloud buyers believe their current cloud environments require modernisation, reporting skill shortages, staffing challenges and operational complexity as significant obstacles. These inefficiencies, combined with the fast growth of enterprise data, often result in unnecessary expenditure.

Hitachi Vantara's VSP One SDS now supports Azure, enabling enterprises to control storage through a single management layer provided by the VSP 360 unified management software. This centralised platform is designed to enable teams to manage data consistently between on-premises and cloud locations, without requiring application changes or redeployment.

Operational efficiency

The system's built-in thin provisioning and compression capabilities are positioned to reduce cloud storage expenses. Its asynchronous replication functionality is intended to support disaster recovery and improve uptime, allowing for business continuity in the event of service interruptions. The platform also permits fast migration and scaling of workloads, accommodating development and operational requirements without disruptions.

"Enterprises are under pressure to modernize infrastructure without disrupting what already works. By bringing VSP One to Microsoft Azure, we're helping Azure customers extend the value of their existing investments while introducing new levels of resiliency, efficiency and simplicity. Our partner ecosystem plays a critical role in enabling that flexibility by helping organizations move at their own pace while keeping costs and complexity in check," said Octavian Tanase, chief product officer, Hitachi Vantara.

Hitachi Vantara emphasised the flexibility the platform extension provides, with Azure cloud integration establishing a foundation for a more agile and resilient approach to hybrid environments. Organisations can use VSP One SDS to optimise protection and operational efficiency, while leveraging existing Hitachi Vantara storage investments.

Partner perspectives

"Microsoft Azure Marketplace welcomes Hitachi Vantara's VSP One, which joins a cloud marketplace landscape offering flexibility and economic value while transacting tens of billions of dollars a year in revenues. Thanks to Azure Marketplace and partners like Hitachi Vantara, customers can do more with less by increasing efficiency, buying confidently and spending smarter," said Jake Zborowski, general manager, Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft Corp.

The wider VSP One platform acts as a unified foundation for block, file and object storage, supporting continuous availability and aiming for 99.999% uptime, which is intended to minimise disruptions and reduce the need for duplicate infrastructure. These features allow for seamless data movement between environments and support business continuity strategies without re-architecting core systems.

Unified management

VSP One, alongside the VSP 360 management solution, is part of Hitachi Vantara's ongoing strategy to improve data management consistency across both cloud and on-premises deployments. The company's advances in centralising operation, automation and visibility are directed at supporting customers looking to scale and modernise data operations in hybrid and distributed environments.

Through this latest development, enterprises subscribing to the Azure Marketplace now have the option to leverage Hitachi Vantara's VSP One SDS for hybrid cloud data management, aiming to streamline IT operations and exercise tighter control over cloud expenditure.
