Lenovo unveils AI-optimised storage for faster enterprise ROI
Lenovo has today announced a major expansion of its data storage portfolio, unveiling new ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile solutions designed to accelerate enterprise AI and IT modernisation. The company launched 21 new models in what it calls the largest storage refresh in its history, aimed at providing businesses with better efficiency, performance, and scalability.
"The new Lenovo Data Storage Solutions help businesses harness AI's transformative power with a data-driven strategy that ensures scalability, interoperability, and tangible business outcomes powered by trusted infrastructure," said Scott Tease, Vice President and General Manager of Infrastructure Solutions Product Group at Lenovo. "The new solutions help customers achieve faster time to value no matter where they are on their IT modernisation journey with turnkey AI solutions that mitigate risk and simplify deployment."
The new portfolio addresses AI, virtualisation, and sustainability needs, and includes storage arrays, software-defined infrastructure (SDI), and a range of AI and virtualisation innovations.
"This refresh reflects Lenovo's commitment to redefining what's possible with AI, virtualisation, and sustainable innovation," said Sumir Bhatia, President of Lenovo's Asia Pacific Infrastructure Solutions Group. "AI investment in ANZ is accelerating, projected to grow fourfold by 2025. However, Lenovo's CIO Playbook 2025 reveals that realising ROI remains a key challenge for enterprises adopting AI. Our next-gen portfolio accelerates ROI and drives smarter outcomes, with innovations like the industry-first liquid-cooled HCI appliance offering up to 25% energy savings—empowering ANZ businesses to lead in AI-driven transformation."
Among the key innovations introduced are the Lenovo ThinkAgile SDI V4 Series, which offers full-stack, turnkey solutions to simplify IT infrastructure and support faster data-driven reasoning. New Lenovo ThinkSystem Storage Arrays are also being launched, promising up to three times faster performance while significantly reducing power consumption.
The company claims that its new arrays can deliver up to 97% energy savings and 99% density improvement compared to devices using traditional 10K HDDs, helping enterprises lower total cost of ownership and shrink their data centre footprints.
Lenovo's new converged ThinkAgile and ThinkSystem hybrid cloud and virtualisation solutions are designed to allow independent scaling of compute and storage capabilities, offering up to 40% savings on software licensing costs.
Additionally, Lenovo unveiled the industry's first liquid-cooled HCI appliance, part of the new ThinkAgile HX Series GPT-in-a-Box solutions, which use Lenovo Neptune Liquid Cooling. This appliance is intended to provide turnkey AI inferencing from edge to cloud, delivering up to 25% energy savings compared to the previous generation.
To support businesses beginning their AI journey, Lenovo has also introduced AI Starter Kits for its Hybrid AI Platform. These kits offer pre-validated configurations of compute, storage, GPUs, and networking, simplifying and accelerating enterprise AI deployments. Paired with the new ThinkSystem Series Storage Arrays, the kits aim to eliminate data silos and enhance the speed of insights using high-performance SSD flash technology.
Bringing compute power closer to data sources is seen as crucial to business success in the AI age. Lenovo said that its new ThinkAgile SDI V4 Series and ThinkSystem Storage Arrays are designed to provide full-stack, AI-ready infrastructure with faster performance for large language model (LLM) inferencing workloads.
As part of its strategy to support hybrid cloud operations, Lenovo also introduced the ThinkAgile Converged Solution for VMware. This platform combines the lifecycle management and operational simplicity of the ThinkAgile VX Series with the data-management capabilities of the ThinkSystem DG Series storage arrays.
Beyond performance and efficiency, Lenovo said it is focused on enhancing security and resilience across its next-generation offerings. The ThinkSystem DG and DM storage arrays feature new AI-powered autonomous ransomware protection, using machine learning to proactively detect and mitigate attacks.
The new storage solutions are backed by Lenovo Premier Enhanced Storage Support, providing IT teams with tailored expertise and rapid response times. Lenovo also integrates its XClarity systems management software across the portfolio, offering security features such as management, encryption, and compliance support.
Sumir Bhatia added that the innovations aim to empower businesses to realise AI-driven transformation more rapidly. "Our next-gen portfolio accelerates ROI and drives smarter outcomes," he said.
The new Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile models are available globally starting today.
