Oracle & Google Cloud launch new AI database services & regions
Oracle and Google Cloud have announced a series of enhancements to Oracle Database@Google Cloud, introducing new AI-enabled database services, broader geographic reach, and a new partner programme.
The update brings the general availability of several Oracle database offerings now accessible through Google Cloud. These include Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure, Oracle Base Database Service, and Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse. Customers can now deploy Oracle Database@Google Cloud in eight Google Cloud regions across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, and may purchase these services through Oracle and Google Cloud partners.
Service updates
The latest release adds embedded artificial intelligence capabilities to the service. Central among the new offerings is the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure. This enables customers to run Oracle Exadata Database as a flexible, virtualised option with pay-as-you-go pricing, allowing scalable compute and storage according to workload demands.
The Oracle Base Database Service is also now generally available, simplifying database management for customers by offering automation features, including lifecycle management and a built-in low-code environment through Oracle APEX. Both services can be provisioned with independent scaling of compute and storage resources and are intended to reduce operational complexity and costs for users.
Additionally, Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse combines AI and analytics with open data format compatibility, incorporating Apache Iceberg open tables, Oracle Exadata and AI Database, while integrating with Google BigQuery and BigLake. This supports Google Cloud users in directly leveraging Google's Gemini AI models and Vertex AI platform on data across hybrid storage environments.
Expanding regional footprint
Oracle Database@Google Cloud is now available in three additional Google Cloud regions: Australia-Southeast 2 (Melbourne), North America-Northeast 1 (Montreal), and US Central 1 (Iowa). They join the existing locations in Tokyo, Frankfurt, London, Ashburn, and Salt Lake City. Capacity for disaster recovery has also been increased in Ashburn and London.
The companies have also announced plans to introduce Oracle Database@Google Cloud in nine more regions within a year. These will include sites in Mexico, Sydney, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Milan, Turin, Toronto, and São Paulo. Disaster recovery capabilities for Frankfurt, Melbourne, and Milan are scheduled as well.
Partner programme
Customers now have the option to purchase Oracle Database@Google Cloud through Google Cloud and Oracle partners via the Google Cloud Marketplace. The partner programme is available to members of both the Google Cloud Partner Advantage programme and the Oracle PartnerNetwork, allowing partners to resell the service and integrate it into broader cloud initiatives.
