Parallels RAS 21.0 enhances hybrid cloud & user experience
Parallels has launched Parallels RAS 21.0, the latest version of its platform for delivering applications and desktops to distributed workforces.
The update focuses on enhanced hybrid cloud management, user experience improvements, stronger security capabilities, and better platform reliability across varied IT environments.
Hybrid work flexibility
The new version allows organisations to better manage both on-premises and cloud-based resources. This is achieved through deeper integration with Microsoft Azure and support for multi-cloud deployments, allowing IT teams to provision and scale workloads more flexibly. Parallels RAS 21.0 now supports Windows Server 2025 as a Hyper-V provider, offering compatibility in both standalone and clustered arrangements for those adopting the latest Microsoft server releases.
User experience upgrades
Several updates are targeted at improving the experience for end users. The web client has been updated for enhanced browser performance, and a policy-driven URL redirection feature helps route users more seamlessly during migrations or maintenance. End users experience fewer interruptions, as the reconnect process now displays a greyed-out desktop while sessions restore after network outages.
The Parallels Client for Windows is also prepared to support Microsoft's upcoming Windows App for AVD, which replaces the Remote Desktop App due for deprecation in 2026. Mobile users will find local resource redirection options, including sound, clipboard, and camera, now match those of desktop clients. Devices managed through IGEL support features such as auto-login and automatic client launch at startup.
Security enhancements
The release introduces a series of new security tools for enterprises. Parallels RAS 21.0 now integrates with Windows Credential Manager, enabling more secure storage and management of user credentials. Multi-factor authentication processes are refined to capture client IP addresses and use RADIUS attributes for access control. The new version offers conditional RADIUS automation for rule-based, user-specific authentication, and introduces fine-grained clipboard controls to manage data sharing securely and efficiently.
Simplified IT management
IT administrators are provided with new dashboards and automation capabilities. The Cloud Cost Insight Dashboard presents detailed analysis of Azure Virtual Desktop consumption, helping organisations manage and optimise their cloud spending. Enhanced API and PowerShell support are intended to streamline management for large-scale environments. Additional administrative tools allow simplified multi-domain oversight, validation for domain credentials during template creation, and easier management of orphaned hosts in host pools.
Platform compatibility
The current release includes support for macOS Tahoe 26, iOS/iPadOS 26, and the latest version of FSLogix. Core components and third-party packages in the HALB appliance have ongoing updates to maintain reliability. Accessibility improvements in the web client and user portal have been made to align with VPAT 2.5 guidelines and WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements, supporting users with visual or motor impairments.
Industry analysts note the shifting requirements of IT teams tasked with managing distributed digital workspaces.
"IT leaders are increasingly focused on tools that simplify the complexity of managing distributed applications and desktops across on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring a balance of scalability, control, and user experience," said Shannon Kalvar, Research Director, IDC.
