Wasabi reaches FedRAMP Ready for cloud storage, targets US agencies
Wasabi Technologies has announced that its cloud storage service for the US Federal Government, Wasabi GovCloud, has achieved Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Ready status.
FedRAMP is a US Government programme designed to standardise security assessment, authorisation, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. The FedRAMP Ready certification places Wasabi Technologies one step closer to full authorisation, which would enable more government entities to use its cloud storage service.
According to the company, achieving this milestone is key to offering US Government agencies and public sector organisations a secure, affordable, and high-performance cloud storage solution. These organisations are increasingly seeking reliable options for backing up data for security and regulatory compliance purposes.
Government cloud demand
The Federal Government continues to aim for increased efficiency and cost management. Wasabi positions its GovCloud offering as a budget-friendly alternative to traditional hyperscaler cloud services. The company's pricing model removes fees for egress and API requests and claims to cost up to 80% less than some other providers, which could result in greater budget predictability and cost savings for agencies.
Wasabi GovCloud's architecture includes a single hot storage tier intended to deliver high performance necessary for mission-critical use cases. These use cases encompass data backup and recovery, surveillance storage, and archiving, providing agencies with timely and efficient data access and management.
Security and compliance remain central concerns for federal agencies. Wasabi states that GovCloud delivers enterprise-grade security and compliance measures, allowing agencies to modernise IT infrastructure while adhering to strict government standards.
Wasabi's position
"Federal agencies are under immense pressure to cut costs and drive more efficiency across the board, all while maintaining best of breed technology solutions," said David Boland, Vice President, Cloud Strategy, Wasabi Technologies. "By achieving FedRAMP Ready status, Wasabi becomes a trusted partner, supporting these agencies with a cloud storage solution that optimises their budgets without sacrificing performance, freeing them up to instead focus on essential operations."
Key features highlighted
The company emphasises three main advantages of Wasabi GovCloud: secure data protection through support for all FedRAMP Moderate security controls including FIPS 140-2 and TLS 1.2 compliant encryption, predictable costs at USD $9.99 per terabyte per month, and scalability to meet the expanding data storage needs of government agencies.
Partner viewpoint
"Carahsoft and its reseller partners are pleased to offer Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage to the Public Sector for an economical approach to fast, secure cloud storage for mission-critical workloads," said Craig P. Abod, Carahsoft President. "With the FedRAMP Ready status, Government IT professionals will soon have a validated solution that meets the compliance standards of Federal Government agencies for backup and offsite data protection in the event of a natural disaster or cyberattack."
With Wasabi GovCloud's path towards full FedRAMP authorisation, federal agencies are set to gain access to an additional option for secure, scalable, and predictable cloud storage that meets government requirements for security and compliance.
