Zayo launches agentic networking for DynamicLink platform

Zayo has launched Agentic Networking for its DynamicLink platform, allowing approved AI agents to access network information and carry out authorised actions.

The launch extends DynamicLink, Zayo's Network-as-a-Service offering, beyond self-service network control to a model in which AI systems can interact directly with network operations under enterprise-defined controls.

The product includes what Zayo described as the first production Model Context Protocol server built specifically for networking. The server is designed to give AI agents controlled access to network context, tools and actions, while organisations decide what information and permissions those agents receive.

Under the model, businesses can let AI agents investigate network performance problems, recommend next steps and execute certain approved changes. Human oversight, governance rules and existing automation remain in place.

The move reflects a broader shift in enterprise technology as companies test whether AI agents can do more than answer questions and instead handle operational tasks across software, cloud and infrastructure systems. Networking has been slower than some other areas to open these workflows directly to AI tools because of the risks involved in granting access to live infrastructure.

DynamicLink was introduced as Zayo's software-defined approach to network control, giving enterprise users a self-service way to manage connectivity. With the new release, Zayo is aiming to place networking functions inside the AI systems customers already use to co-ordinate work across applications and cloud environments.

Use cases

Zayo outlined several use cases, including establishing cloud-to-cloud connectivity, investigating performance problems across network, cloud and application environments, managing connectivity as workloads move between clouds, and responding to unusual network activity.

According to Zayo, the platform can also carry out approved network or security changes through DynamicLink tools. Another intended use is to let organisations build networking tasks into approved AI workflows outside the DynamicLink portal.

Zayo said retrieval-augmented generation is used to ground interactions in the DynamicLink knowledge base. In practice, this means AI agents can draw on the platform's documented product and network information when assessing conditions or deciding which tools to use.

For network teams, the proposed benefit is less manual switching between systems during routine work. Zayo said this could be relevant in sectors including retail, financial services, healthcare, and media and entertainment, where data-heavy environments add complexity to day-to-day network management.

The launch comes as suppliers across the telecoms and infrastructure market look for ways to tie AI more closely to operations rather than limiting it to analytics and support functions. The challenge for vendors is to show that AI can be allowed to take action without weakening control, auditability or security.

Zayo said enterprises using Agentic Networking define the information, tools and actions available to agents. That structure is intended to limit AI activity to approved tasks while keeping people in charge of the underlying infrastructure.

Chris Ranalli, Chief Revenue Officer for Enterprise at Zayo, said the company sees the combination of network infrastructure, the DynamicLink platform and the new MCP server as a new step in how AI can be used in networking.

"Together, Zayo's network infrastructure, DynamicLink platform, networking skill, and MCP server create a capability that has not previously existed," Ranalli said.

"This combination creates a way for approved AI agents to understand what is happening across the network, access network tools, and execute authorized actions. Instead of simply asking AI questions about the network, enterprises can put AI to work on it."

Strategic shift

Zayo is positioning the release as a shift in how Network-as-a-Service is used. The first phase of that market focused on software-based visibility and direct user control, while the newer approach aims to let AI systems act as an operational interface between staff and the network.

That could alter how network teams work if customers become comfortable with AI handling approved actions such as provisioning links, gathering diagnostics or preparing responses to incidents. It also suggests network providers may increasingly compete on how easily their platforms connect with external AI systems, not only on bandwidth, reach or pricing.

Zayo operates a large fibre network across North America and connects more than 400 markets globally. Agentic Networking is available immediately as part of the DynamicLink platform.

Max Clauson, SVP of Network Connectivity at Zayo, said the company believes enterprise demand will move towards AI systems that can act across core business infrastructure.

"Enterprise AI will increasingly be measured by what it can responsibly accomplish across the systems that run the business," Clauson said.
