Amazon has invested more than USD $35 billion in Louisiana, supporting jobs and local businesses across the state.

The total covers infrastructure spending and compensation linked to Amazon's Louisiana operations since 2010. It includes more than USD $17.5 billion invested in the state economy over the past five years.

Amazon said its direct investments and employee compensation have contributed more than USD $33 billion to Louisiana's gross domestic product over that period. The spending has also supported more than 28,000 full-time and part-time jobs, both directly and indirectly.

Amazon employs more than 7,500 people in Louisiana in full-time and part-time roles. They work at fulfilment centres, delivery stations, sorting centres and corporate offices, as well as in technology roles tied to Amazon Web Services data centre operations.

State footprint

Amazon's presence in Louisiana spans logistics, cloud infrastructure and support functions. It has expanded through both operational sites and data centre development, making the state one of its larger regional investment markets in the US South, according to the company.

Amazon also highlighted its broader effect on small and medium-sized businesses. More than 4,500 independent sellers in Louisiana use its store, and those businesses recorded average annual sales of more than USD $315,000 in 2024, according to the company.

Louisiana-based independent sellers sold more than 65 million items in 2024, the company said. Their products reached customers across the United States and abroad through Amazon's platform.

Supplier spending

Since 2010, Amazon has spent more than USD $10 billion with more than 1,600 local suppliers and service providers in Louisiana, according to the company. Those businesses include construction firms, logistics providers, professional services companies and other vendors connected to Amazon's facilities and operations.

The announcement adds detail to Amazon's long-running investment strategy in US states where it has expanded warehouse networks and cloud infrastructure. Louisiana has been part of that push as eCommerce groups and cloud operators have increased spending on property, equipment and regional supply chains.

Large technology and logistics employers have faced closer scrutiny in recent years over the local economic impact of major capital projects. In response, companies including Amazon have published state-level figures on jobs, supplier contracts and estimated GDP contributions.

Amazon presented Louisiana as a state where its investment has combined employment growth with support for local businesses. It said the scale of its spending reflects both its operational expansion and the role Louisiana-based suppliers and sellers play in its wider network.

"We're proud of the investments we've made in Louisiana and the impact they've had on the state's economy, from supporting jobs and infrastructure development to helping local small businesses reach more customers," said Holly Sullivan, vice president of worldwide economic development at Amazon.

"Louisiana is home to thousands of Amazon employees and local partners, and we're committed to continuing to support economic opportunity in the communities where we operate," Sullivan said.
