UNICO launches 330kW grid-tie inverter for data centres

UNICO has launched a 330kW bidirectional grid-tie inverter for data centres, energy storage and solar generation applications.
The inverter moves power between DC resources and AC infrastructure and supports a range of voltage requirements. It can also be deployed in parallel configurations for larger systems.
UNICO said the product operates at 98.5% efficiency and delivers up to 330kW at 900 VAC. It supports AC voltages from 380 to 900 VAC and a programmable DC voltage range of 600 to 1500 VDC.
According to the company, the system can run in groups of 10 or more units, allowing total power levels above 3.3 MW. This allows customers to use a single platform for commercial and industrial installations, as well as some smaller utility-scale projects.
The inverter is designed and manufactured in the United States and has a power density of 72W per cubic inch, UNICO said.
UNICO is positioning the launch around rising demand from sectors with growing electricity needs, including data centres and battery storage. It said the market for bidirectional systems at 1,500 VDC in US-made products remains limited at the commercial and industrial scale.
Mike Canada, Chief Executive Officer at UNICO, said the product was intended to address uncertainty over future electricity needs in large infrastructure projects.
“As organizations invest in next-generation infrastructure, determining how much power a system will require years from now can be challenging,” Canada said.
“Our Grid-Tie Inverter solves that problem, delivering unmatched flexibility so businesses can 'future proof' their operations. Whether supporting solar generation, energy storage or emerging high-power loads, the UNICO GTI provides efficiency and reliability in a compact, rack-mounted unit.”
Canada also pointed to demand linked to expanding digital infrastructure and storage deployments.
“With the explosion of data centers, increase in alternative power generation, and expansion of battery storage across industries, bidirectional capability at 1,500 VDC is increasingly required but remains underserved at the C&I scale by U.S.-manufactured products,” Canada said.
“UNICO's GTI addresses this genuine gap in the U.S. inverter market and can be used across a wide variety of applications both today and for years to come.”
