Veeam launches Kasten v7.5 with enhanced data protection

Yesterday

Veeam Software has launched Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes v7.5, featuring enhanced data protection, elevated security, and improved virtualisation support.

The latest version of Veeam Kasten underscores significant advancements in scalability, backup, and restoration efficiencies aimed at catering to modern enterprise needs. This release also incorporates protection against emerging threats and simplifies compliance with industry regulations. "Looking ahead in 2025, we anticipate a significant expansion in Modern Virtualisation options, both in terms of the variety of vendors and the CPU architectures supported, as well as the depth of capabilities offered," said Gaurav Rishi, Vice President of Product Management at Veeam. "An example of this broadening is the enhanced support of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation as well as initial support for SUSE Virtualisation, being introduced in Kasten v7.5."

Veeam Kasten v7.5 offers modern virtualisation solutions with seamless protection for both virtual machines and containerised applications under a unified platform. It supports Red Hat OpenShift and SUSE Virtualisation, facilitating efficient backup and recovery workflows. The release further enhances security compliance with multi-cluster FIPS support and expands protection capabilities including ransomware protection with object lock capabilities in Google Cloud Storage. It also delivers performance upgrades, such as a threefold improvement in backup times for large volumes of data.

Strategic partnerships with Infinidat and NetApp have bolstered the offering. Integration with Infinidat's InfiniBox storage and the InfiniBox CSI driver allows for secure and reliable backup solutions for low-latency, high-capacity workloads. "Infinidat's enterprise customers are clearly investing in containers, and recognise that large-scale production use cases require rock solid enterprise storage solutions that deliver 100% availability," said Erik Kaulberg, VP of Strategy and Alliances at Infinidat. "Our collaborations with Veeam and Red Hat make it easy to consume our class-leading enterprise storage solutions across containers use cases from primary storage to backups and beyond."

NetApp's partnership with Veeam extends longstanding data management solutions to accommodate the growing need for container and VM applications in Kubernetes environments. "NetApp is excited to build on its long-standing partnership with Veeam by extending our data management solutions to include the growing list of container and VM applications in Kubernetes environments," said Gagan Gulati, GM/VP, Data Services at NetApp. "Veeam Kasten's data protection expertise, coupled with NetApp storage demonstrates our shared commitment to providing organisations the most innovative solutions to scale and protect their Kubernetes workloads."

The new version of Veeam Kasten also benefits from recognition in the GigaOm Radar for Kubernetes Protection, where it was named a Leader and classified as an Outperformer due to its speed in innovation, resilience, security, compliance, and modern virtualisation. "Veeam scored well in the GigaOm Radar for Kubernetes Data Protection across a number of decision criteria, including database-aware backups due to the Kanister framework, data integrity due to its top-notch ransomware and tamper protection, as well as recoverability verification and instant recovery functionalities," said Joep Piscaer, analyst at GigaOm.

Red Hat OpenShift's integration with Veeam Kasten improves the management of Kubernetes workloads with a focus on security and scalability considerations. "Red Hat OpenShift is the industry's leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes, designed to empower organisations with a cloud-native approach to modern virtualisation," said Mike Barrett, Vice President and General Manager, Hybrid Platforms at Red Hat. "With Veeam Kasten 7.5 support for Red Hat OpenShift, organisations can scale with greater confidence and benefit from comprehensive security-focused capabilities supported on a single, consistent platform."

With these advancements, Veeam Kasten v7.5 aims to provide a comprehensive solution for enterprises looking to secure and manage their Kubernetes environments efficiently. Thomas Jouffroy, Lead DevOps Engineer at Sopra Steria, remarked on the benefits of the release, "At Sopra Steria, we have been utilising Kasten technologies for several years. With the release of v7.5, we are thrilled to see Veeam strengthening its FIPS support and enhancing Kasten's multi-cluster management for OpenShift, which is crucial for our customers seeking to bolster their security."
