DXC recovers 2,055kg of e-waste in UK recycling drive

DXC recovered 2,055 kilograms of electronic waste in the UK through its technology recovery, reuse and recycling programmes in the last financial year.

The total came from its Tech Amnesty initiatives, which collect unwanted devices from offices and client sites for recycling. The process is intended to reduce the amount of discarded equipment sent to landfill and encourage wider reuse of technology assets.

Alongside recycling, DXC collected more than 1,000 devices through its Device Donations programme. About 40% were suitable for donation to community organisations.

Those donations form part of a broader effort to extend the working life of computers and other equipment after their first use in a corporate setting. Refurbished devices are also distributed to people facing digital exclusion, linking waste reduction with improved access to technology.

Recovery and reuse

DXC runs both internal and customer Tech Amnesties, gathering unwanted devices from its own workplaces and client locations. Recycling is handled by E-Cycle, a specialist partner that operates a zero-to-landfill model.

The focus on device recovery reflects a wider challenge for large employers and technology users as they manage ageing laptops, peripherals and other electronic equipment. Rather than treating obsolete devices only as waste, businesses are increasingly assessing whether they can be reused, refurbished or broken down through formal recycling channels.

For DXC, the figures suggest a substantial share of collected equipment can remain in circulation. With roughly 40% of more than 1,000 collected devices deemed suitable for donation, several hundred items were redirected to community organisations instead of being disposed of.

DXC plans to expand the donations programme over the next year, aiming to increase both the number of devices collected and the number passed on to good causes. That would broaden a scheme that sits between corporate asset management and social support for people without reliable access to digital tools.

Skills investment

DXC also provided figures on internal training linked to greener software practices. It said 94 employees completed Green Software Practitioner certifications, while 184 hours were devoted to building expertise in designing, building and operating software more sustainably.

The training broadens the company's sustainability work beyond hardware disposal. It reflects an effort to address the environmental impact of technology not only through what happens to devices at the end of their life, but also through how software is created and run across IT systems.

That matters because sustainability programmes in the technology sector increasingly span several areas at once, from data centre energy use and software efficiency to procurement, refurbishment and recycling. In this case, DXC has attached measurable outputs to both equipment recovery and staff training.

A UK sustainability executive at the company said the programmes were intended to show that practical measures could deliver environmental and social benefits at the same time.

"By recovering unwanted devices, increasing opportunities for reuse and supporting responsible recycling, we're helping reduce technology waste while delivering positive environmental and social impact. It demonstrates how organisations can reduce waste, extend the life of technology and create positive outcomes for the communities they serve."
